This year’s Silver City Day was filled with vibrant energy, smiles, and countless moments of togetherness that truly define our community. We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who contributed to making this annual event, which has been running for over 90 years, a huge success. The dedication and commitment to Argentine are what keep this tradition alive and thriving.
Our vendors added to the festive atmosphere with delicious food, a variety of arts, crafts, and toys. Many of these vendors return year after year, a testament to the spirit of Silver City Day. The event offered fun for everyone, from the bounce house and obstacle course to face painting and the 360 photo booth, thanks to our friends at Your Unforgettable. Live entertainment brought the park to life, courtesy of Stranded in the City and Bluebone Brothers, who delivered amazing performances.
At this year’s Silver City Day, we saw so many little moments of community, and we believe this is what keeps the tradition alive. The wind blew, tents went rolling across the park, and bystanders jumped to help bring them back. One person borrowed a sharpie and returned it with thanks. Neighbors who hadn’t crossed paths in many months caught up for half an hour. At least a dozen people who spent their childhood in Argentine returned to volunteer for a day in their "hometown." One volunteer stayed up all night caring for children while their mom delivered a baby early, yet she still showed up in the morning to help run the event. Another volunteer, despite having an event an hour away, arrived before sunrise to help set up. A newcomer to Argentine experienced his first Silver City Day, and we wonder what he saw. But above all, what we saw were smiles—so many smiles—spread across the faces of those who came together for this beloved event. We wonder what you saw at Silver City Day.
This event is not just a fun day out; it’s a celebration of our deep roots and rich traditions. At one point, our Executive Director Amanda DeVriese-Sebilla was chatting with AJ Reyes, reminiscing about how his father, Andre Reyes, used to provide sound and entertainment for the event in the '90s and 2000s. Amanda remembered because her own father, AJ DeVriese, and stepmom, Mary DeVriese, helped plan the event in years past. It was a special moment, realizing that both Amanda and AJ are now continuing the traditions their parents helped keep alive.
This year’s parade showcased the incredible school spirit of our local schools, with New Stanley Elementary, Emerson Elementary, Noble Prentis Elementary, and Silver City Elementary all participating. Of course, the J.C. Harmon High School Marching Band and Cheerleaders were there, leading the fun with an encore after the parade. We were also honored to have Washington High School, Wyandotte High School, and Sumner Academy join us, with Wyandotte High School's Marching Band winning the spirit award this year.
Our community, often described as having a "small town in the big city" feel, came together to celebrate this incredible tradition. ABC extends a huge thank you to our sponsors: Solo Style Housing, Arvest Bank, Dragonfly MSP, Villa Argentina Neighborhood Association, Southwest Argentine Neighborhood, Keller Williams, Metro Fitness, Elite Printing, Tays Creative Ways, Representative Dr. Oropeza, Representative Louis Ruiz, and Senator Pat Pettey. We are also deeply grateful to our planning committee, support team, and the ABC board for their tireless efforts.
Lastly, none of this would be possible without the hard work and dedication of our Silver City Day planning committee and support team, along with ABC’s Board members: Joanne Avalos, Sally Murguia, Trini Murguia, Mario Escobar, Kim Alcorn, Katie Rico, Greg Rico, Jan Thomas, Anjel Lapoint, Marabel Suarez, Amalia Murguia, Maddix Davis, Miguel Murguia, Allison Carreon, Natalie Carreon, Alyssa Avalos, Leland Estes, The Prettymans, Jeff and Diana Miles, Raymond East, and Sarah Plake.
Thank you all for your continued dedication to our community and for making Silver City Day such a memorable event! We can’t wait to celebrate again next year!
