Walk through the history of Argentine on the KCK Legacy Trail

In order to highlight the ethnic and cultural history of Wyandotte County, Visit KCK has

cultivated self-guided audio tours. These tours aim to take tourists and locals alike to key

monuments. In order to motivate participants, those that complete a trail get points that are then redeemed for prizes, including art designed by local artists. The audio tour and the check-in system can be accessed online on https://www.visitkansascityks.com/legacy-trail/ where visitors can sign up for their “passport” for free. The passport registers one’s location via GPS services to track their points.

The Latino Journey was one of the first trails to be introduced in the KCK Legacy Trail.

Additionally, the Anthology of Argentine Mural has the privilege of being the first stop amongst ten others. Located at 3160 Metropolitan Ave, Kansas City, Kansas, and painted in 1998, the Mural celebrated its 25th anniversary two years ago. To celebrate the quarter of a century milestone, efforts to restore it began. In the two years since then, the Argentine Betterment Corporation created various community fundraising events as well as received grants to make this dream a reality. With all of the funds secured, Jose Faus, one of the original muralists, has begun the restoration work in the past week!

The addition of the Mural to the Trail is beneficial to the community. It highlights to

potential visitors the history of Argentine which many would likely gloss over. It captures the

neighborhood's indigenous and industrialization history while also capturing its history in

segregation and racism. Being able to see a historic piece in person allows for travelers to make physical connections to the information that they learn. Participants in the tour can walk across the sidewalk, simultaneously walking through the narrative that they are listening to via the audio tour. The exposure of the Mural to a larger audience gives the potential for the legacy of Argentine and its community to continue to blossom rather than fall into obscurity. The new restoration efforts of the Mural ensures that the piece will continue to showcase the history of the Argentine community for decades to come.
