On Saturday, October 4th, 2025 the Argentine community came together once again at Emerson Park to celebrate one of our most cherished annual traditions — Silver City Day! Each year, this event brings together families, friends, and neighbors from across Wyandotte County to enjoy great food, live entertainment, local arts and crafts, and plenty of fun and games.

This year’s parade was one of our best yet, featuring over 45 entries showcasing schools, community organizations, and local businesses. We were honored to have Ramon and Sally Murguia serve as our 2025 Parade Grand Marshals.

"Our 2025 Parade Marshals are Ramon and Sally Murguia.  Ramon was born and raised right here and attended Emerson Elementary, Argentine Middle, and JC Harmon High School – class of 1977.  Sally came to Argentine as a newlywed in 1996 and ever since she has been an Argentine grassroots volunteer. They are proud to call Argentine their home because we all work together to make this neighborhood a good place to raise a family.  In fact, their 2 children, Miguel and Amalia, also grew up in this close-knit neighborhood, and they are here today as Silver City Day volunteers.

Ramon and Sally share a commitment to community service and social progress that combines legal expertise with grassroots volunteerism to make a lasting impact on their local community and beyond. Here, they led a volunteer community effort to raise $2 million toward the South Branch Library that opened in 2012. Ramon owns Murguia Law Office located in Argentine, and he chairs the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Development Fund which has awarded thousands of college scholarships over the last 40 years. Sally chairs the board of the Argentine Betterment Corporation and volunteers with various local initiatives."

All of our local schools were represented in the parade — New Stanley Elementary, Silver City Elementary, Noble Prentis Elementary, Emerson Elementary, El Centro, Argentine Middle School, and JC Harmon High School. The energy continued as all five Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools high school marching bands — JC Harmon, Washington, Schlagle, Wyandotte, and Sumner — joined in the celebration. After the parade, the marching bands filled the center of Emerson Park with music and school spirit, a highlight that always thrills our attendees. Schlagle Marching Band took home the Spirit award this year but all our schools and parade entries displayed so much school spirit!

We were fortunate to have Commissioner Christian Ramirez and Matt Kleinmann serve as this year’s guest parade judges, alongside our enthusiastic guest parade announcers Raymond East and Brian Perez, and our talented junior guest announcer Leia Perez from El Centro.

This year, Silver City Day welcomed more than 25 volunteers, along with ABC staff and our entire Board, working hard to ensure a safe and fun experience for all. We had over 70 vendors join us for our event with a variety of food, drink, games, arts and crafts. We also introduced a new car show, coordinated by the Martinez's, we’re already planning to make it even bigger next year!

Entertainment kept the park buzzing all afternoon, featuring our local crowd favorite, Stranded in the City, and a new local band, Souluna, who had everyone dancing and singing along. We also had several phenomenal dance performances from the Folkloric Group Ballet Folklorico Itsi Asuli

Silver City Day is truly a celebration of Argentine’s “small town in the big city” spirit — a time for old friends to reconnect and new neighbors to feel at home. ABC is incredibly proud to host this beloved event year after year, and we can’t wait to see everyone again in 2026!

But the fun doesn’t stop here! Join us for two more community favorites this fall:
